The Matrix : Justice in Midwest Buildings

November 12-14, 2025

Milwaukee, WI

For the first time in person, our highly popular Equity Summit has been reimagined as an Equity Strategy Summit—uniting organizers, advocates, and sector leaders from across the Midwest to respond with clarity, coordination, and courage.

Held at the iconic Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel in downtown Milwaukee, the gathering will span three days of immersive learning, coalition building, and tactical planning.

This isn’t just a gathering—it’s a post-election strategy session designed to protect our communities and the buildings that house the people we love. With federal decarb funding reductions and Midwest states navigating hostile legislative terrain, this summit offers a strategic space to confront the obstacles ahead—helping you leave with a clear map of the mile markers, decision points, and pressure zones that lie ahead in 2026.

We are asking folks to step into The Matrix, where we’ll decode the illusion of neutrality in our built environment, expose the structures that mask harm, and equip ourselves with the tools to Reassess. Realign. Recover. Reimagine. Rebuild.

Why the Matrix?

Why the Matrix?

Two hands holding pills, one red and one blue, against a black background.

In a world where carbon-intensive systems are normalized, we face a choice: remain in a constructed reality that hides inequity behind policy and profit—or wake up.

Throughout the summit, we’ll challenge attendees to choose how they want to continue in this work:

  • Take the blue pill and operate as if business as usual is enough.

  • Or take the red pill and commit to seeing the system clearly, challenging it boldly, and rebuilding with intention.

From plenaries to breakout sessions, we’ll continue to decode the illusion of neutrality in our built environment,

expose the structures that mask harm, and equip ourselves with the tools to Reassess.

Realign. Recover. Reimagine. Rebuild Midwest Building Justice.
